Internship Life 10

25th june 2010 is friday also the last day i stay in my internship company. Hard to explain my feeling, should i happy because of free after this or sad because nextime may be no more chance to work together with them. Anyway, i think this time is one of the great experience i explore because working really is not as simple as we think. As a result, i had learn how to assemble an engine from seperate parts, test fuel injector, cylinder leaking repair and the way to operate an excavator which is the most rarity things that i think others uniten student do not know about this. I felt glad to experience all this. Now i still preparing my report, hopefully it make all related people satisfy with it.

Internship Life 9

This is the last week for me to work and i felt time running faster than expected. Recently the new things i had learned is how to test Fuel Injection using injection tester. In the beginning, we need to pump the tester using Diesel up to at least 40MPA, after that we release it, Diesel will spray through the injector head that having 7 holes. Since this week we are doing Engine overhaul, we have to make sure all the component is work in the good condition iincluding the injector. The engine problem for this time is piston head crack. The reason causes might be the material problem or over working time.

Internship Life 8

Last week, My visiting supervisor came to Hitachi company and visit me. I went to Sunway pyramid meet him because he don't know how to come to Hitachi and luckily one of the student accompany him to sunway pramid. He meet my supervisor to know my current situation in the company. After that, he also ask me few question regarding to internship flow. Today, i learn how to dismate and assembly main pump, where the excavator depend on it to function their boom with hydraulic fluid. The problem for this main pump is because of unknown material or as we suspect is plastic that accidently throw inside the hydraulic tank and cause the main pump fail to function normally.

Recently waiting for my visiting supervisor, unfortunately, my visiting supervisor not really know the road to my internship company. The solution provided by him is ask 1 of their student go back Uniten and guide him. But my internship company not agree me to do so, since i have to work during the working hour. So, I really hope my visiting supervisor able to come at least sunway pyramid, so that i can try to due with my company to go sunway pyramid meet him. Anyway, i believe m supervisor know to arrange his time to meet all their students. Recently i just work four days, since the company provide replacement public holiday from weekend. It is time to prepare all my task for internship purpose. Perhaps i can finish it before due date.

Internship Life 6

Well, Now i just left 1 more month to undergoes my internship. So far i notice that i learn practical more than theory. From technical or real practical section, we are actually facing all the problem where its is hard to imagine through theory. Maybe its hard to understand the fact, but actually i still not really clear about my position as an engineer once i graduated later. The position i mention over here is am i more suitable to work in practical or planning field. By the way, since my final year is coming soon, i still thinking of my final year project. I think i should get some rough idea through my internship because i have more time to think and plan. What i writing over here might not related to what i learn during my internship life, but for future, all of this should be take in consideration, am i right?

Internship Life 5

I already on the half way of my internship life. For last week, i help my senior to overhaul engine again. Now only i notice that, the company have standby 2 engines as a backup, so aas one of the excavator break down because of engine failure, Hitachi technician will uninstalled the failure engine and install the backuo engine on it at the same time. This kind of process need around 2 days to complete it. From here, the excavator still can temporarily work using the backup engine at the time we overhaul their engine. It is a very important for engine internal part keep clean and free dust. Because average one engine will work 8 hours per day, so we very carefully to make sure every part assembled is in good condition. Recently saw an email send by Uniten, start from now, the visiting supervisor will come and visit me. Hopefully what i learn over here will not dissapointed host supervisor and visiting supervisor.

Internship Life 4

Currently, i quite familiar with the company work style. I felt weird, how come the manager and my supervisor do not allow me to go out together with the technician for out station work. The reason provided is insurance do not cover me, company will not responsible for any accident occur if i am workig outside. Actually, i am more prefer to work outside, since we can really troubleshooting the problem on the spot. I think this is the things i can learn over here, but unfortunately it is just opposite to what i expected. This two week (week 4 and week 5) i undergo a very unbelieveable work process. Since all the technicians went out couple by couple, the workshop just left me and maybe supervisor worry about my safety if i work myself or understand that i not really know the exact solution in solving certain problems, he just simply assign me to clean and do some workshop maintainance. For an trainee engineer or even a normal person, if listen to workshop maintainance, it should be normal, but unfortunately is not here. The workshop maintance over here is actually define as sweep floor, clean the old store room, remove rubbish, and shift the soil. When i doing this kind of job, i was thinking, am i work as a trainee engineer or just a additional cleaner that paid with salary RM500?? This is a good question to discuss about how a company recruit a knowledgeable person to just clean their workshop that even a labour also able to do it.

Internship Life 3

Internship third week already over and I feel that the time goes quickly. This week i learn the process of assembly bucket of excavator. Even though both the bucket and the arm are heavy and have a large size, but we manage to assembly it in short time. The way is with the use of machine such as fork lift. After we assembly it, we still can adjust the clearance between the arm and the bucket using the thin plate. The second task i learn is added up the Racor filter as a diesel pre-filter before connect to the original fuel filter. By the way, we need to exchange and add up fuel hose on it.

Internship Life 2

This is the second week i work in workshop. As usual, I just follow the person who stay in workshop that will going to repair those machines. Most probably the person will be Mr.Zakaria. He has more than 20 years experience in repairing machines. He consider as a good master technician but he gt his weekness, that is slow motion. But he told me that, slow is actually a good process, since we would not easily miss out any important steps and we can complete the job nicely. So far i still familiar with the environment because i ever experience this before. Even though i am still new over here, but i already know all the technicians here. It is very important to stay closer with them because the envinronment will make all of us work together more better and efficiency.

This week we going to test run the engine that undergo overhoul process. This picture show that the way we going to test the engine. The reason we put the engine under the other excavator is to link the electrical cable of the engine to the new excavator shown in order to start testing the engine.

Internship Life 1

5April 2010 is the first day I having my internship in Hitachi Company. In the beginning, the clerk prepare the personal locker key, identity card and also company T-shirt to me. She is Sakunthara which is the secretary of product support department. She is a very friendly person and hardworking for company. Since I am new in the first day, she record my personal detail and also ask for my shoes size and T-shirt size so that she can get it from responsible department. After that, she brought me to Mr.Lim which is my supervisor along my internship period. Mr.Lim brought me visit around the company and try to introduce to me about their company operation and how to learn well in my internship. There are few departments inside the company such as, account department, product department, marketing and sale department. After I visit the company, I found that they have a systematic arrangement where different parts that related to the machine have different section to allocate. As a result, there would not getting any trouble in keep their products. Mr. Lim bring me to Mr.John which is the manager of product support department and he explained to me about the company policy and also emphasize that I am not allow to work out station since the insurance do not cover for me at all. My working hour is 8 hours, start from 8.00am to 5.30pm and in between, I have lunch hour from 12.30pm to 1.30pm and the rest time are 10.00am to 10.15am and 3.00pm to 3.15pm. There have around workers that work together with me in the same department. My department responsibility is actually to support our product. In brief, it is actually to repair and service the machine we had sale. Most of the workers in my department work for out station, since they need to service the machines outside our company and most probably the machines is excavators. I walk around there and knew few employees inside the company. It’s quite unexpected I work as a trainee mechanic in workshop but I still will try my best to learn as much as possible about the machine and hopefully I can experience it more and more.
